Step into the Spotlight

We work with leaders to become more poised and polished, identify their own authentic style, honor their talents, and attain a sense of confidence and success. With your organization as the backdrop, we'll work to monetize their expertise with brands that are strategic, meaningful, and memorable.

  • WHO WE ARE
Common is a conglomerate of inclusive leadership and brand development resources for rising stars and executives. We partner with organizations seeking to become the employer of choice for diverse talent by establishing strategic and sustainable pipelines and processes for developing, advancing, and promoting women and people of color. We support corporate employers by working with their diverse staff to develop leadership skills and business acumen, while showing them how to communicate their value in a meaningful way (without losing themselves in the process). This type of training enables those with leadership potential to highlight their strengths and come across as the authority for what they know and do best. As an organization, you shine when you help your people build, market, and profit from enhanced leadership brands, so there's a dual benefit.
  • WHAT WE BELIEVE
As today’s headlines prove, an inclusive work environment is not just a nice-to-have; it can make or break a company. An organization is only as good as its culture—and building an inclusive and intentional culture is not only a role for human resources; it’s the responsibility of every manager and employee. You can help make your organization a more supportive and engaging workplace by understanding the perceptual, institutional, and psychological processes that impact the ways people interact with their organizations. As it turns out, some people are really knowledgeable and very good at what they do but have a hard time articulating their value to others. Good leaders seek out development opportunities that will help them learn new skills. However, in traditional and resource-confined settings, marginalized communities (such as women and people of color) often lack access to proper development, advancement, and promotion opportunities. Think about your typical rising star or executive that hasn't received leadership and brand development...as a representative of your business, they're likely not going to attract the right audience or as many opportunities, because they aren't fully equipped. We believe that some people can inherit certain qualities and traits that make them better suited to leadership. These are the 'natural born' types that everyone wants on their team. And yet, despite their charisma and influence, there are some skills that must be acquired to ensure success (such as business, strategic, and financial acumen). In that way, leadership is a set of skills that can be learned by training, perception, practice and experience over time and leadership becomes a lifetime learning activity. This isn't just about being politically correct or being nice. Diversity in leadership (or the absence thereof) is imperative because it’s critical for our economy and your talent pipeline. When your leadership isn't inclusive and intentional, it hurts both your corporate brand and your employer brand. We're here to level the playing field.
  • HOW WE WORK
We help corporate professionals develop business acumen, get their work noticed, cement their reputations as leaders, and position themselves for broader opportunities across their organizations and industries. We can accomplish your organizational objectives by focusing on relevant areas (such as leadership presence, communication, and mindset) while making space for women and people of color to achieve desired business objectives. Are you interested in developing your leaders and their brands? Is your organization seeking to push beyond performative activism to execute programmatic changes by developing a provision, platform, and pipeline that seeds more women and persons of color into visible leadership roles? We support diverse leaders by helping them... • Navigate the “double bind” dilemma facing women in leadership; that is, women are both penalized for using leadership behaviors associated with masculinity and penalized as being weak if their behavior is seen as too feminine • Outmaneuver typical negotiation traps that women leaders fall into • Develop emotional intelligence so that they can lead others with greater empathy, self-awareness, and social management • Give feedback effectively, putting their team in a position to succeed • Identify what optimal work / life harmony looks like along with the tools needed to craft this balance for themselves, allowing for both professional and personal success We support organizations by helping them... • Develop their brand’s values, personality, purpose, and positioning statement • Analyze market trends to identify significant challenges and opportunities for your brand • Build a brand strategy to activate the brand in a competitive marketplace • Optimize their brand’s position in the brandscape through positioning mapping • Create a brand plan based on a thorough analysis that positions the brand to deliver on marketing objectives • Maximize brand activation through superior employee engagement • Assess the progress the brand is making based on data and performance indicators
Colleagues Working Together

By building a strong, inclusive, and diverse company culture, you can create a positive, engaging environment that attracts top talent, drives employee performance, and enhances your brand reputation.

It requires a consistent, intentional effort to define, communicate, and reinforce the behaviors, practices, and values that align with your organization's goals. Your culture must be authentic, relevant, and meaningful to your employees and customers to be effective.

Far too many companies invest in the attraction and acquisition of diverse talent, without putting their resources and efforts into the suitable types of engagement and retention initiatives designed to develop, advance, and promote those employees.

Our clients come from finance, tech, professional services, marketing, and the talent acquisition industry. They can be individuals who want to take charge of their professional development or companies who want to train their teams. We know how you feel, and we've got your back.

Companies come to us when faced with pressing challenges.

Perhaps a few years ago, your organization began investing sincerely and heavily in diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives. You had some quick wins in onboarding diverse talent, and it seemed the tide was turning in your organization. You've kept up with the aggressive recruitment and retention efforts that worked before, but you're starting to experience your first wave of turnover from these recently-hired cohorts, and you're wondering what more can be done to enhance employee engagement and improve employee loyalty.

BREAKING NEWS

Trending current events that expose institutional inequities can have an indirect but negative impact on your company's reputation or expose weaknesses in your brand image if your workplace culture isn't in order. With the right support, your company can show that it is taking steps to address any issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion, and that it is committed to creating a more inclusive and welcoming environment for all of its employees.

MASS HIRING

When preparing for mass hiring in order to attract a diverse pool of candidates, you want to show that your company values diversity and inclusivity. By valuing and promoting diversity and inclusivity, your company can foster a more positive and collaborative work environment that can ultimately lead to better business results. This hiring preparation leads to increased creativity and innovation, as well as improved decision-making and problem-solving.

INVESTOR PREP

A commitment to diversity and inclusion has become increasingly important to investors and stakeholders. Inclusivity and diversity can be seen as a sign of a healthy and well-functioning company. Investors and potential acquirers may be more likely to invest in or acquire a company that demonstrates a commitment to inclusivity and diversity. A diverse and inclusive leadership team and brand can help your company appeal to a wider range of customers and stakeholders.

ESG AND CSR REVIEW

When evaluating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) strategies or meeting regulatory requirements, some companies work to build diverse boards and leadership teams. Making inclusion a foremost goal within corporate social responsibility (CSR) objectives helps to create a positive brand image, an enhanced reputation, and develop effective business relationships. Implementing a well-developed program can create and maintain positive and engaging relationships.

75%

increase in C-Suite leadership overseeing corporate social responsibility initiatives

Creating a culture of inclusivity can lead to success for your company.

By fostering a culture where all voices are heard, and all perspectives are valued, your company can tap into a broader range of ideas and experiences, which can drive innovation and better serve customers.  Forbes recently cited Boston College Center for Corporate Citizenship Research, showing that C-Suite leadership overseeing CSR initiatives has spiked nearly 75% since five years ago.

A company can meet these requirements by having a diverse and inclusive leadership team and brand. Diverse and inclusive leadership can help a company better understand and manage risks, as it can bring different perspectives and approaches to problem-solving. Creating a respectful and inclusive environment improves your company by increasing employee engagement and productivity.

There's no time like now. Let's take the next step together.
